Birth debriefing

A birth debrief is an opportunity to talk about your birth experience and to reflect on your pregnancy and birthing journey. If a pregnancy or birth has not met the expectations we held for it, it can be a really hard experience to understand and move through. Not only for the birthing mother but their partner as well. Feelings of failure, shame, guilt and anger are some of the emotions that can be experienced in the postnatal time. These feelings can begin to affect our day to day lives. They can effect the way we parent, our future pregnancies and birth's, especially if there are unanswered questions. A debrief or listening session can help to bring clarity and make sense of feelings surrounding this time, to be heard and held in the process. A debriefing session can also be very useful prior to a future pregnancy/birth as a preparation tool. Birth and pregnancy debrief sessions are tailored to you and your unique story. It can look like debriefing and working through previous births, preparing for a new birth or postnatal period or working through feeling of new motherhood. I will usually ask you to set some intentions for the session or what you feel like you want out of session. Birth debriefs can be conducted in home within the Geelong and surrounding area or online. It is important to note that debrief sessions are not therapy sessions, they act as an opportunity to talk openly and reflect about your journey in a trauma informed, safe and respectful manner. Note. If you have a lot of uncertainty around specific details of your birthing story, a copy of your notes from your birthing services can be obtained, (usually for a printing and processing fee from your hospital). It is not necessary to have a copy of your notes for the debrief session, but if you are unsure feel free to contact me. Sessions will run between 1.5-2 hours.
